How do I scale a recipe or mix ratio?
Keep the ratio fixed and solve for the new quantity. If a mortar mix is 1:4 cement to sand and you need 3 bags of cement, the proportion gives 12 bags of sand.
What is the difference between a ratio and a fraction?
A ratio compares two parts to each other (2:3), a fraction compares one part to the whole (2/5). The same relationship, expressed against different totals.
How do I convert a ratio to a percentage?
Divide one term by the sum of both terms. In 3:1, the first part is 3 ÷ 4 = 75% of the total.
