Questions
About this tool
What is the difference between markup and margin?
Markup is profit divided by cost. Margin is profit divided by price. A 50% markup on $100 gives a $150 price and a 33% margin, not 50%. Confusing the two is the most common way contractors underprice themselves, so this tool asks for markup and shows you the price it produces.
Why use flat-rate pricing instead of hourly?
Because hourly punishes you for being fast and rewards you for being slow, and the customer cannot know what they will pay until you are finished. Flat rate gives a number up front. It requires knowing your true cost per job, which is what this list is for.
Does my cost include overhead?
It should. If your cost only counts parts and the technician's wage, your markup is paying for the van, the insurance, the office and the phone before it becomes profit. Work out an overhead rate first, then treat the loaded figure as your cost.
When doing it once is not enough
Manage
Making one of these by hand is fine. Making forty a month, chasing the ones nobody paid, and finding last year's when a customer queries it, is a different job.

Nothing is saved. Close the tab and the contents are gone, because nothing is stored on our side. It also does not number documents for you, track what has been paid, or chase anyone.
