Questions

About this calculator

How much does it cost to run a 3-ton AC?

At 16 SEER and $0.16/kWh, roughly 36 cents an hour. Over a hot season running eight hours a day, that is a few hundred dollars.

Is SEER2 the same as SEER?

No. SEER2 is tested at higher external static pressure and produces a slightly lower number for the same equipment. Compare like with like when shopping.

The formula

kW = BTU/h ÷ SEER ÷ 1,000; cost = kW × hours × rate
