Is a jump from 14 to 20 SEER worth it?
It cuts cooling energy by about 30%, but the payback depends on how many cooling hours you run and your electricity rate. In a hot climate it can be compelling; in a mild one it rarely is.
Does duct sealing matter more than SEER?
Often, yes. Leaky ducts can waste 20–30% of conditioned air regardless of the equipment's rating, and sealing them is far cheaper than the SEER upgrade.
