Ready-mix is sold in whole or half yards and most suppliers charge a short-load fee under about 3 yards. Always order slightly over. A pour that runs short mid-way is far more expensive than surplus concrete.

About this calculator
How many 80 lb bags make a cubic yard?
About 45. Bagged concrete only makes sense below roughly half a yard; beyond that ready-mix is cheaper and far less work.
How thick should a slab be?
Four inches is typical for patios and walkways, five to six for driveways and anything carrying vehicles. Local code and soil conditions govern, and thickened edges or footings add volume this calculator does not include.
Why order extra?
Sub-grade is never perfectly level, so real volume usually exceeds the calculation. Ten per cent is standard; on uneven ground allow more.
The formula
cubic yards = length × width × (depth ÷ 12) ÷ 27
