About this calculator
How much topsoil for a new lawn?
Four to six inches of good topsoil gives grass a real chance. Less than four leaves roots in the subsoil, which is why thin lawns struggle in dry spells.
How many tons is a yard of topsoil?
About 1.1 tons screened and dry, considerably more when wet. Suppliers often sell by weight, so wet soil buys you less volume.
