About this calculator
What is a roofing square?
One hundred square feet of roof surface. It is the standard unit for both estimating and pricing, so quotes are usually per square rather than per square foot.
How much waste should I allow?
Ten per cent on a simple gable, 15% or more on a cut-up roof with hips, valleys and dormers. Starter and ridge cap are usually counted separately.
