How it works
A QR code encodes the destination in the pattern itself, which is why it works without any service in the middle and why it cannot be edited afterwards. Error correction is built in, so a code tolerates some damage and still scans, but that tolerance is consumed by a long URL, poor contrast or printing it too small. Encoding the direct write-review link rather than the listing page removes the same intermediate taps a link does.
What to get right
- Printed size, which has to suit the scanning distance.
- Contrast and quiet space around the pattern.
- URL length, since a long one makes the pattern denser.
- Where it is printed, which decides whether anyone ever scans it.
Where this goes wrong
The permanence is the risk: the link is baked in, so a code printed on a thousand invoices with the wrong Place ID is a thousand wasted invoices. Scan the printed proof with an actual phone, not the screen version, before committing to a print run. Placement decides whether it works at all, and a code on a job-done card handed over while the work is fresh outperforms one on a van nobody photographs. The same FTC rules apply as to any review request: ask everyone, and do not offer anything for it.

- Scan the printed proof with a phone before a print run.
- Keep a clear margin around the pattern and strong contrast.
- Print it large enough for the distance it will be scanned from.
- Place it where the customer is at the moment goodwill is highest.

About this tool
Where do QR codes actually get scanned?
On the invoice and on the job-done card, in that order. Van signage looks good but almost nobody scans a code on a moving vehicle. The moment that works is when the technician hands something over and says what it is for.
How small can the code be printed?
About an inch square is the practical floor for a phone camera at arm's length. Smaller than that and it needs good light and a steady hand, which is not what you get on a doorstep.
Does the code stop working if I change the link?
Yes. The URL is encoded into the pattern itself, so a printed code points at that address permanently. If you expect the destination to change, point the code at a short link you control and change where that redirects.
