Questions

About this calculator

Why is my margin lower than I expected?

Usually because overhead was never allocated. A job that looks like 60% margin on parts and labour alone can be closer to 30% once the van, insurance, software and office time are carried.

Should I price by the hour or by the job?

Flat-rate pricing protects margin because the customer is buying an outcome, not your speed. Whichever you use, the cost side of this calculator is the same.

How do I handle callbacks?

Add the callback's labour and parts to the original job before calculating. A job with two callbacks is a different job financially, and averaging them across the year hides the pattern.
