About this calculator
How deep should mulch be?
Two to three inches for most beds. Deeper than four holds too much moisture against stems and can suffocate shallow roots, and piling it against trunks causes rot.
How many bags in a cubic yard?
13.5 of the standard 2 cubic foot bags. Above two yards, bulk delivery usually costs less than half as much per yard.

cubic yards = length × width × (depth ÷ 12) ÷ 27
