About this calculator
How much waste should I allow?
Five percent on a plain rectangle, ten or more where there are curves, trees and beds to cut around.
How soon must it be laid?
Within 24 hours in warm weather, sooner if it is hot. Stacked sod heats up on the pallet and starts to die from the middle.
How much water does new sod need?
Enough to keep the soil beneath it damp for the first two to three weeks, which usually means daily watering. Sod that dries out at the seams shrinks and leaves gaps that never close neatly.
