Hourly rate to charge $114.95
Billable hours per year 1,346
Revenue needed per year $154,667
Equivalent day rate $919.61 Based on 8 billable hours
To take home 95,000 you need $154,667 of revenue across 1,346 billable hours: a rate of $114.95 an hour.

The billable share is the number people get most wrong. Working 45 hours does not mean invoicing 45 hours: quoting, travel, admin and chasing payment are all unpaid.

Questions

About this calculator

Why is my rate so much higher than my old salary divided by 2,080?

Because an employer covered your unbillable time, taxes, insurance, equipment and holidays. Self-employed rates have to carry all of that from billable hours only.

What billable share is realistic?

For field trades, 55–70% of paid hours is common once travel, restocking and quoting are removed. Measure yours for a fortnight before trusting a number.
