Hourly Rate Calculator
Work out the hourly rate you need to charge to cover costs, unbillable time and the income you want.
Result
The billable share is the number people get most wrong. Working 45 hours does not mean invoicing 45 hours: quoting, travel, admin and chasing payment are all unpaid.

About this calculator
Why is my rate so much higher than my old salary divided by 2,080?
Because an employer covered your unbillable time, taxes, insurance, equipment and holidays. Self-employed rates have to carry all of that from billable hours only.
What billable share is realistic?
For field trades, 55–70% of paid hours is common once travel, restocking and quoting are removed. Measure yours for a fortnight before trusting a number.
