Questions

About this calculator

How deep should fence posts go?

A common rule is one third of the above-ground height, or below the frost line where ground freezes. Whichever is deeper. A 6 ft fence typically needs a 2 ft hole minimum.

What post spacing should I use?

Eight feet is standard for timber. Reduce to six in high wind areas or for solid privacy panels, which act like sails.
