About this calculator
What joist spacing do I need?
Sixteen inches on centre suits most timber decking. Composite boards and diagonal layouts usually require twelve. Always check the board manufacturer's span table.
How much waste should I allow?
Ten per cent for a straight rectangular deck, and 15% or more for diagonal decking, picture framing or multiple levels.
