Sheets needed 16
Area 432.0 Square feet
Area including waste 483.8
Estimated material cost $256
Joint compound (gallons) 4.8 Roughly one gallon per 100 sq ft
Screws (approx.) 533
For 432.0 sq ft plus 12% waste you need 16 sheets, costing about $256.

Openings are not deducted, which is deliberate. The offcuts around a door or window are rarely reusable, so counting the full area is closer to what you actually buy.

Questions

About this calculator

What size sheets should I use?

4×8 (32 sq ft) is standard and handles easily; 4×12 (48 sq ft) creates fewer joints on long walls but needs two people and good access.

How much compound will I need?

Roughly a gallon per 100 square feet across all coats. Level 5 finishes and textured work use noticeably more.

The formula

sheets = (wall area × waste factor) ÷ sheet area
