Boxes needed 6
Area 80.0 Square feet
Area including waste 89.6
Estimated material cost $228
Thinset bags (50 lb) 1 About 95 sq ft per bag
Grout (lb, approx.) 45
For 80.0 sq ft plus 12% waste you need 6 boxes, costing about $228.

Thinset and grout quantities depend heavily on tile size, trowel notch and joint width. Large-format tile uses far more thinset per square foot than mosaic; small mosaic uses far more grout.

Questions

About this calculator

How much extra tile should I buy?

Twelve per cent for a straight lay, 20% for diagonal or patterned work. Keep the offcuts and a spare box. Matching a discontinued tile later is usually impossible.

How much thinset do I need?

Roughly one 50 lb bag per 95 square feet with a quarter-inch notch trowel. Large-format tile needing a half-inch notch can halve that coverage.
