How far a ton of decorative rock goes, and how much a bed needs.
Result
Coverage depends on stone size and depth. Smaller stone covers more ground per ton than larger, and at two inches deep a ton of 3/4 inch rock covers roughly 80 to 100 square feet. Coverage figures on a bag or a box are laboratory numbers measured on a flat, prepared surface. Real surfaces are rougher, more absorbent and more awkward than that, so the honest allowance is always higher than the label suggests.

How deep should decorative rock be?
Two inches over fabric for most beds. Three or more if it is a path being walked on, because thin rock migrates.
Does stone size change coverage?
Considerably. Larger stone has bigger voids, so a ton of 2 inch rock covers noticeably less area than a ton of pea gravel at the same depth.
