About this calculator

What counts as unaccounted time?

Whatever is left after on-site work, travel and admin. It absorbs waiting on parts, customer no-shows, breaks, re-dispatch and the gaps between appointment windows. A large number here usually means the schedule has holes rather than that anyone is idle.

Is there a good ratio of on-site to travel time?

There is no universal figure, because service-area density dominates it. A dense suburban route and a county-wide rural territory produce completely different numbers with identical dispatching. Compare yourself against your own trend, not a benchmark.

Does adding technicians reduce travel time?

Often yes, because smaller territories mean shorter runs between stops, but only if dispatch actually assigns by proximity. Adding a technician and continuing to dispatch by whoever answers the radio changes very little.
