Gross profit $878
Gross margin 27.4%
Profit per labour hour $62.71
Total job cost $2,322
This job earns $878 at a 27.4% margin, $62.71 per labour hour. Compare that against your service-call work before taking more of it.

Permit turnaround and inspection wait time are real costs even when they carry no invoice line. If a job ties up a van for a day waiting on an inspector, add that time to labour hours.

Questions

About this calculator

Why is profit per hour more useful than margin?

Because your constraint is licensed labour hours, not revenue. A 40% margin job that ties up an electrician for three days can be worse than a 25% margin job finished in four hours.

How should I treat apprentice hours?

Enter a blended burdened rate for the actual crew mix on the job. A journeyman-plus-apprentice crew has a very different cost per hour than two journeymen.

Do EV charger installs price differently?

They often involve a long run, a panel assessment and sometimes a service upgrade. Quote the assessment as its own step rather than absorbing it into the install price.
