What a cleaning job actually costs once labour burden, materials, travel and overhead are all counted.
Result
Travel time is counted because it is paid and it occupies the day, whether or not the customer sees it on the invoice. Gross profit is what is left after the cost of doing the job. Overhead comes out of that: the building, the office wages, the vans, insurance, software and advertising. A healthy gross margin still loses money if overhead is larger.

About this calculator
Why include travel?
You pay for it and it uses up sellable hours. A job twenty minutes away and one ninety minutes away cost different amounts to deliver even when the work is identical.
What is labour burden?
Everything the employee costs beyond the wage: payroll tax, workers compensation, holiday, sick pay, training and often the vehicle. For most trades it adds 25% to 40%.
How do I work out overhead per hour?
Total annual overhead divided by the hours you actually bill, not the hours you pay for. Using paid hours understates it, because nobody bills every hour they pay for.
The formula
cost = (job hours + travel) x crew x wage x (1 + burden%) + materials + overhead per hour
