What utilisation should I aim for?
Higher than last quarter. Absolute targets borrowed from other companies ignore how far apart the jobs are and how much travel the work involves.
Is chasing utilisation always good?
No. Pushed too hard it produces rushed work and callbacks, and a callback is unbillable time plus a damaged customer.
Where does the time usually go?
Driving, waiting for parts, and returning to finish jobs that were started without everything needed. The third one is usually the cheapest to fix.
