Is overtime cheaper than hiring?
Up to a point. It avoids recruitment and a second vehicle, but the multiplier plus burden makes each hour expensive, and sustained overtime costs more in mistakes and turnover than the arithmetic shows.
What sits inside labour burden?
Payroll taxes, workers compensation, liability insurance, holiday and sick pay, training and uniforms. Many contractors add the vehicle too, which pushes it past 40%.
