Restoration
Restoration Markup Calculator
Turn a restoration job cost into a price at the markup you want, and see the margin that markup actually produces.
Result
Markup is measured against your cost, margin against the price you charge. A 50% markup is a 33.3% margin, not a 50% one. Pricing off the wrong one is the most common way a job that looked profitable turns out not to have been.

About this calculator
What markup gives a 50% margin?
100%. Doubling the cost is the only markup that puts half the price in your pocket. A 50% markup leaves a 33.3% margin.
Should materials and labour carry the same markup?
Usually not. Materials tie up cash and carry warranty risk, labour carries the schedule risk. Most contractors mark materials up more heavily, then check the blended margin on the whole job.
Is markup applied before or after overhead?
If your cost figure is direct cost only, the markup has to cover overhead and profit together. If overhead is already inside the cost, the markup is profit alone. Be clear which you are doing, because mixing them is how jobs get underpriced.
The formula
price = cost x (1 + markup%); margin = profit / price
