Pool & spa
Pool Volume Calculator
Pool volume in gallons, for rectangular, round and oval pools with a sloping floor.
Result
A cubic foot holds 7.48 US gallons. Average depth works for a floor that slopes evenly; pools with a sharp transition, a spa shelf or a beach entry hold less than this suggests, often by several percent.

About this calculator
Why does volume matter so much?
Because every chemical dose is per unit of water. A 20% error in the gallon figure is a 20% error in every dose you ever add to that pool.
How do I handle an irregular shape?
Break it into rectangles and circles, work each out and add them. For a kidney or freeform pool, an average of the widest and narrowest points is usually within a few percent.
Does the spa count?
Only if it shares the water. A spillover spa on the same circuit is part of the volume; a separate self-contained one is not.
The formula
rectangular: length x width x average depth x 7.48; round: pi x r^2 x average depth x 7.48
