Cost to win one customer $183.04
Cost per lead $58.57
Customers per month 22
Gross profit on the first job $240
Recovered on the first job 131%
Each customer costs $183.04 to win, and the first job returns $240 of gross profit, 131% of the acquisition cost. The rest has to come from repeat work.

Sales time is included because it is a real cost of winning work even though it never appears on an advertising invoice. Recovering under 100% on the first job is normal in the trades, provided customers come back.

Questions

About this calculator

Should the first job cover acquisition entirely?

Not necessarily, and demanding it usually means underinvesting. What matters is that acquisition cost is comfortably below lifetime value and that you can fund the gap until the repeat work arrives.

Why include sales time?

Because quoting is expensive. An hour driving to look at a job somebody never books is money spent acquiring a customer you did not get.

My cost per lead looks fine but acquisition cost is awful.

Then the problem is conversion, not advertising. Cheaper leads will not fix a process that loses most of them.

The formula

acquisition cost = (marketing + sales cost) / customers won
