Average ticket $475.61
With the increase $535.61

Extra per year $59,040
Your average ticket is $475.61. Adding $60 to it is worth $59,040 a year on the same number of jobs.

Raising the average ticket costs nothing in extra marketing, which is what makes it the cheapest growth available. It is also the easiest number to damage by selling work people did not need, and that is a short road.

What moves the number

  • Job mix, since a month of drain clearing looks nothing like a month of bathroom work.
  • Whether the plumber inspects beyond the reported fault.
  • Approval rate on what is found.

Where this one goes wrong

Tracking one blended average. Service, repair and installation tickets differ by an order of magnitude, and a blended figure moves with mix rather than with anything you changed.

Questions

About this calculator

How do I raise average ticket honestly?

Look beyond the reported fault and report what is found. A failing shutoff or a corroded connector next to the repair is genuinely worth raising, and the customer decides.

Should it be tracked by plumber?

By plumber and by job type, interpreted with care. Someone sent to more drain calls will show a lower average through no fault of their own.

Is a rising average always good?

Not if call volume is falling or customers are declining and leaving. Read it alongside close rate and repeat business.

How useful was this calculator?

A worked example

These are the figures the calculator opens with. Every number in the results column below is produced by the same calculation the page runs, so you can follow it through before putting your own figures in.

What comes out

ResultValue
Average ticket main result$475.61
With the increase$535.61

How sensitive the answer is

Holding everything else steady and changing only revenue for the period, this is what happens to average ticket. It is worth knowing which of your inputs the answer actually hinges on, and which barely move it.

Revenue for the period ($)Average ticket
$19,500 $237.80
$29,250 $356.71
$39,000 example above $475.61
$58,500 $713.41
$78,000 $951.22

Every other input is held at the example value while this one changes, which is not how a real job behaves. Treat it as a guide to which number matters most, not as five separate quotes.

Before you rely on this number

Pipe sizing, flow and pressure figures depend on the actual fittings, the run, the material and local code. Code requirements vary by jurisdiction and override any general calculation, so check what applies where the work is happening.

Estimating is the easy part

The jobs you never hear about cost more than the ones you mis-measure. BDEVY builds the marketing, systems and automation that bring them in.
