About $572: $297 of labour, $180 of parts and a $95 call-out.

A planning estimate, not a quote. Access, the age of the equipment, what is found once it is opened up and local labour rates all move the real figure, sometimes a long way.

What moves the number

  • Travel time and mileage, which belong to the job rather than to overhead.
  • Van, tank, generator and pressure washer costs, which are the mobile equivalent of premises.
  • Water carried per vehicle, which limits how many jobs a tank supports before refilling.

Where this one goes wrong

Treating the van as overhead rather than as a per-job cost. Fuel, maintenance, depreciation and insurance are consumed in proportion to jobs done, and spreading them evenly hides which jobs are too far away to be worth taking.

Questions

About this calculator

How should travel be costed?

As time at the burdened hourly rate plus mileage at a real per-mile figure. Counting only fuel understates it substantially once maintenance and depreciation are included.

What does a tank of water actually cover?

It depends on the wash method and the vehicle's condition, which is worth measuring for your own setup. Running out mid-job is a scheduling problem as well as a cost one.

Is mobile cheaper to run than a site?

Lower fixed costs and a lower ceiling. There is no rent, but travel consumes capacity that a fixed site sells, so the comparison is not simply cheaper.

How useful was this calculator?

Not rated yet. Yours would be the first.

The formula

total = hours x people x rate + parts + call-out, then sales tax

A worked example

These are the figures the calculator opens with. Every number in the results column below is produced by the same calculation the page runs, so you can follow it through before putting your own figures in.

About $572: $297 of labour, $180 of parts and a $95 call-out.

How sensitive the answer is

Holding everything else steady and changing only labour rate charged, this is what happens to estimated total. It is worth knowing which of your inputs the answer actually hinges on, and which barely move it.

Labour rate charged ($)Estimated total
$68 $424.60
$101 $497.20
$135 example above $572
$203 $721.60
$270 $869

Every other input is held at the example value while this one changes, which is not how a real job behaves. Treat it as a guide to which number matters most, not as five separate quotes.
