About $572: $297 of labour, $180 of parts and a $95 call-out.

A planning estimate, not a quote. Access, the age of the equipment, what is found once it is opened up and local labour rates all move the real figure, sometimes a long way.

What moves the number

  • Water per vehicle, and whether any of it is reclaimed.
  • Chemical cost at working dilution, not at purchase concentration.
  • Labour per vehicle for anything that is not fully automatic.

Where this one goes wrong

Ignoring sewer and trade effluent charges. Many operators are billed for discharge as well as supply, and a cost model built on the water bill alone can miss a substantial part of the real figure.

Questions

About this calculator

How much of the cost is water?

Less than most operators expect on the supply side and more once discharge is counted. Both halves belong in the number, and the split varies a lot by location.

Is a reclaim system worth it?

It depends on local water and discharge pricing and on volume. It is a capital decision that pays back through per-vehicle cost, so it needs the per-vehicle figure first.

Why calculate chemical at working dilution?

Because concentrate prices tell you nothing about cost per vehicle. Dilution ratio and applied volume are what turn a drum price into a per-wash cost.

How useful was this calculator?

Not rated yet. Yours would be the first.

The formula

total = hours x people x rate + parts + call-out, then sales tax

A worked example

These are the figures the calculator opens with. Every number in the results column below is produced by the same calculation the page runs, so you can follow it through before putting your own figures in.

About $572: $297 of labour, $180 of parts and a $95 call-out.

How sensitive the answer is

Holding everything else steady and changing only labour rate charged, this is what happens to estimated total. It is worth knowing which of your inputs the answer actually hinges on, and which barely move it.

Labour rate charged ($)Estimated total
$68 $424.60
$101 $497.20
$135 example above $572
$203 $721.60
$270 $869

Every other input is held at the example value while this one changes, which is not how a real job behaves. Treat it as a guide to which number matters most, not as five separate quotes.
