About $572: $297 of labour, $180 of parts and a $95 call-out.

A planning estimate, not a quote. Access, the age of the equipment, what is found once it is opened up and local labour rates all move the real figure, sometimes a long way.

What moves the number

  • Vehicle condition on arrival, which matters far more than vehicle size.
  • Product consumption, which is small per vehicle and material across a month.
  • Bay or driveway time, since a detail occupies a space for hours rather than minutes.

Where this one goes wrong

Pricing by vehicle size alone. A neglected compact can take longer than a well kept large vehicle, and a size-based price list has no way to express that.

Before you quote

  • Whether there is pet hair, which changes interior time substantially.
  • Whether paint has defects the customer expects to disappear.
  • Existing damage, photographed before work starts.

Questions

About this calculator

Should detailing be priced by vehicle size or condition?

Condition first, size second. Size sets a floor, condition sets the actual time, and a price list built only on size guarantees that the worst vehicles are the least profitable.

How do I handle a vehicle far worse than described?

Inspect and confirm the price before starting, not after. A condition surcharge agreed at the door is routine; the same charge added at handover is a dispute.

Why photograph the vehicle first?

Because existing chips, scratches and dents get attributed to whoever cleaned the car last. A dated set of arrival photographs ends that conversation immediately.

How useful was this calculator?

Not rated yet. Yours would be the first.

The formula

total = hours x people x rate + parts + call-out, then sales tax

A worked example

These are the figures the calculator opens with. Every number in the results column below is produced by the same calculation the page runs, so you can follow it through before putting your own figures in.

About $572: $297 of labour, $180 of parts and a $95 call-out.

How sensitive the answer is

Holding everything else steady and changing only labour rate charged, this is what happens to estimated total. It is worth knowing which of your inputs the answer actually hinges on, and which barely move it.

Labour rate charged ($)Estimated total
$68 $424.60
$101 $497.20
$135 example above $572
$203 $721.60
$270 $869

Every other input is held at the example value while this one changes, which is not how a real job behaves. Treat it as a guide to which number matters most, not as five separate quotes.
