Auto Repair Revenue Calculator
Project shop revenue from vehicles through the door, average ticket and the share that becomes approved work.
Result
Service lines rarely carry the same margin. Splitting them is the only way to see which part of the business is paying for the rest, which is frequently not the part that looks busiest.
Get a Free Business AuditWhat moves the number
- Approval rate on recommended work, which is usually the largest single lever.
- Average ticket, which rises with inspection discipline rather than with price increases alone.
- Bay hours available, which is the hard ceiling.
Where this one goes wrong
Modelling growth as more cars. Most shops have more approvable work already in front of them than they have capacity to sell, and improving approval on existing vehicles is cheaper than buying more of them.
Questions
About this calculator
What raises the average ticket honestly?
A consistent inspection on every vehicle and a clear explanation of what was found. Not adding items, but surfacing the work that is genuinely there and letting the customer decide.
Why does approval rate matter more than car count?
Because the vehicle is already in the bay and the acquisition cost is already spent. Converting work you have already found costs nothing extra.
How do I forecast a seasonal shop?
Model the quiet months separately rather than dividing the year by twelve. An annual average hides the months where fixed costs are not covered.
The formula
revenue = jobs x average value; gross profit = revenue x margin

A worked example
These are the figures the calculator opens with. Every number in the results column below is produced by the same calculation the page runs, so you can follow it through before putting your own figures in.
What goes in
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Repair jobs per month | 28 |
| Average value | $520 |
| Gross margin on this work | 46% |
| Share of total revenue | 40% |

How sensitive the answer is
Holding everything else steady and changing only average value, this is what happens to repair revenue per month. It is worth knowing which of your inputs the answer actually hinges on, and which barely move it.
| Average value ($) | Repair revenue per month |
|---|---|
| $260 | $7,280 |
| $390 | $10,920 |
| $520 example above | $14,560 |
| $780 | $21,840 |
| $1,040 | $29,120 |
Every other input is held at the example value while this one changes, which is not how a real job behaves. Treat it as a guide to which number matters most, not as five separate quotes.
