Amps to Watts Calculator

Convert amps to watts for DC, single-phase and three-phase, with power factor.

Your numbers

Result

Power 1,800 Watts
In kilowatts 1.8
Apparent power 1,800 Volt-amps
In horsepower 2.4
1,800 watts (1.8 kW).

Power factor only applies to AC. Resistive loads such as heaters and incandescent lamps sit at 1; motors and electronics sit lower, which is why a motor draws more current than its wattage alone suggests.

Questions

About this calculator

What is power factor?

The share of the current that does useful work. At a power factor of 0.8 the circuit carries 25% more current than the wattage implies, which is what the conductor has to be sized for.

Where does 1.732 come from?

It is the square root of three, which relates line and phase quantities in a balanced three-phase system.

The formula

single phase: W = V x A x PF; three phase: W = 1.732 x V x A x PF; DC: W = V x A
